New Nissan Juke Electric Concept On the Horizon

There are reports that an electric Nissan Juke will be displayed this September at the Tokyo Motor Show. Nissan has announced the plan to unveil a concept that was inspired by the 2015 Gripz show model. According to a report from the U.S, the electrified concept will take centre stage at the Nissan exhibition on their home turf.

The Report:

According to a Car and Driver report, Nissan is set to debut an e-Power New Nissan Juke concept later this year in Tokyo. The concept would be powered with the range extender drivetrain, that was seen in the hybrid Note e-Power launched last year in Japan.
The Note e-Power features a three cylinder 1.2 litre petrol engine and an electric generator inverter set, allowing the engine to be used solely to generate electricity. Unlike a conventional hybrid system, the e-Power engine in the Note doesn’t send power to the wheels. This makes the set up like the range extended variant of BMW’s i3. In the report, Car and Driver states that the Juke concept will be a preview for the styling of the next generation Nissan compact SUVs. This is already anticipated to be revealed later this year or early in 2018. The exterior design is thought to be modelled on the Gripz crossover concept that was revealed back in 2015.

This report is somewhat substantiated by reports in the UK’s Auto Express from July 2016. The magazine reported that there would be a second generation Nissan Juke arriving at some point in 2017. This would be previewed with a pre production concept, and there would be a possibility of both hybrid and all electric powertrain options.
The new Juke is already anticipated to share the Common Module Family B platform with several other models from the Renault Nissan new alliance. This includes the X-Trail, Qashqai and Renault’s Scenic, Grand Scenic and Megane.
Of course, Nissan HQ is keeping the official details under wraps. As per tradition, Nissan HQ is likely to keep official reports to a minimum so the unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show can have maximum impact.
