Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is an excellent vehicle with a great track reputation for reliability if you take care of it. However, some drivers take their cars for granted, and this can lead to some lengthy waits at the side of the road for a breakdown truck. Of course, any major checkups and maintenance tasks should be carried out by a qualified Nissan mechanic during a regular service. However, there are a few essential maintenance tasks that you can do without any mechanical expertise.

1. Get Familiar with Your Owner’s Manual

The Nissan Qashqai comes with a comprehensive owner’s manual that is filled with loads of useful information about your car. This should be your first port of call when you need to look up something related to your vehicle. It’s not necessary to learn everything in the manual, just get to know how it’s laid out and understand how the index works. If you need more detailed information as your knowledge improves, you can always purchase an aftermarket maintenance manual.

2. Tyres are Vitally Important

The Tyres on your Qashqai are vitally important because they are the only point of contact with the road. As such, they need to all be in good condition to maintain grip in dry and wet conditions. Check the tyre pressures once each week on the same day and get a tyre pressure gauge for accurate results. The required tyre pressures are located on the tyre pressure placard and in your owner’s manual. Get into the habit of regularly examining your tyres for signs of wear and tear. Pay close attention to areas where the wear is uneven because this could indicate that your alignment needs to be adjusted. A correctly inflated tyre is safer to drive on, and it will lower your fuel bill.

3. Check Your Lights

It’s illegal to drive on our roads with broken headlamps and taillights. Every light is important for driving safely, and it’s a great idea to check them regularly. Get a friend to help you, check each light in turn and get them to tell you it’s working correctly. If a light has failed it could be a simple fuse issue, and this is easy to replace. If the bulb has blown this is slightly more complicated to replace, but the details are in your manual. Finally, make sure that all of your lights are cleaned regularly to ensure that they are as bright as the manufacturer intended.

4. Battery Charging Problems

Many drivers forget all about their car batteries until their car fails to start one morning. A flat battery can be a real problem, and you may have to get a jump start from a friendly passerby to get back on the road. A car battery is recharged by the alternator when you drive your car, but if the journey is very short, there will not be enough of a charge stored. Driving on a longer journey can easily charge up a car battery, but this is only useful if you need to travel a long distance and charging a battery in this way would be expensive because of the fuel costs. It’s a better idea to invest in a car battery charger and use it every couple of weeks to charge your car battery up.
